Question
What resolution do I need for a large custom sign?
Answer
The resolution a sign needs depends on how far away people will view it. Signs are read from a distance, so they need far less resolution than a business card, but you still want crisp edges.
| Viewing distance | Recommended resolution |
|---|---|
| 5 feet or more (yard signs, banners) | 150 DPI minimum |
| Up close (counter displays, desk signs) | 300 DPI |
- Set DPI at the final print size, not at a small preview size.
- Vector artwork for logos and text scales to any size without losing sharpness.
- Higher resolution means sharper text and cleaner images, so when in doubt, size up.
