The minimum size for an EDDM postcard is 6.125" x 11", and the short side is the part that matters. The piece has to measure at least 6.125 inches on its shortest edge to qualify for USPS retail saturated mailing rates.
- Minimum short side: 6.125 inches, non-negotiable for EDDM eligibility.
- Below that and the piece is treated as a standard postcard, losing EDDM pricing.
- Common starting point: 6.5" x 9", which clears the minimum with room to spare.
Many businesses default to 6.5" x 9" because it comfortably qualifies while keeping postage low. Designing at or above the minimum from the start avoids a costly redo at the post office.
