Question

What should I know about how kraft paper will look when printed?

Answer

Kraft paper has a natural brown color and a visible fiber texture, and both of those show through in the final printed piece. That warm, earthy look is the appeal of kraft, but it also changes how your ink appears compared with bright white stock.

  • Color shift: inks sit over the brown base, so colors look more muted and warmer than they do on white paper.
  • Texture: the surface stays slightly rough and uncoated, which suits rustic and organic designs.
  • Proofs can mislead: the kraft background shown in a digital proof will not perfectly match the real paper's tone and feel.

Because an on-screen proof only approximates kraft, confirm the design specs before approving for production, and request a physical sample if exact color is critical.
