Question

How do I understand paper dimensions-height vs. length?

Answer

Print dimensions are given as height by length (or width), and knowing which is which prevents ordering a piece in the wrong orientation. Height is the up-and-down measurement and length or width is the side-to-side measurement.

  • Height: the vertical dimension, top to bottom
  • Length or width: the horizontal dimension, side to side

For example, choosing 10 in height by 24 in length gives you a long, horizontal piece that is short top to bottom and wide across. Flip the numbers and you get a tall, narrow piece instead.
