What does "labels wound out" and "labels wound in" mean?

Wound out and wound in describe which way the printed face of the label points as it sits on the roll. It is a simple but important distinction for machine application.

• Wound out: the label faces the outside of the roll, liner on the inside
• Wound in: the label faces the inside of the roll, liner on the outside
