What should my artwork dimensions be if I want a half-fold brochure?
Answer
Folded pieces are designed flat and unfolded, so the artwork dimension is always the full open size, not the folded size. Setting this up wrong is the most common brochure file mistake.
- Finished folded size: 8.5" wide x 11" tall.
- Flat artwork size: 17" wide x 11" tall (double the width for a half fold).
- Your PDF: should match that flat, unfolded 17" x 11" dimension.
Add bleed beyond the flat size as well, and keep important text away from the center fold so nothing gets pinched at the crease.
