What does lamination add to cards-does it increase stiffness or just protect the print?
Answer
Lamination is mainly a protective layer. It bonds a thin film to the surface of the card to guard the printing against wear, moisture, and handling.
- Primary benefit: protects the printed surface and extends the life of the card.
- Applied separately: it is an added process on top of the base stock and printing.
- Priced on its own: lamination is quoted separately from the card stock and print cost.
Some laminates also add a bit of rigidity and a distinct feel, but the core reason to add it is durability and print protection.
