Yes, a single-layer card can be embossed, but the effect shows up best on thicker stock. Embossing presses a raised impression into the paper, so the more substantial the card, the more pronounced and crisp the result.
- Thicker is better: heavier cardstock holds a deeper, more defined emboss
- Above 18pt: stocks thicker than 18pt are generally built by mounting layers together
- Single-layer works: you can emboss a single-layer card, just expect a subtler effect on thinner stock
- If you want a bold, tactile impression, choose a thicker card for the emboss
