Question
Can raised spot UV be applied to uncoated cardstock?
Answer
No. Raised spot UV needs a sealed, coated surface to hold the raised gloss, so it cannot be applied to uncoated or cotton stocks. Those surfaces absorb the coating instead of letting it sit up on top.
- Not compatible: uncoated cover and cotton papers, because the finish soaks in rather than staying raised.
- Recommended stock: 16pt Velvet Laminated paper, which gives the raised UV a smooth base to build on.
- See it first: sample cards are available on request if you want to review the effect before ordering.
If your design calls for a matte or natural feel and a raised UV accent, the velvet-laminated stock is the way to get both.
