Question

Can I use laser cutting for thick cardstock like 24pt ultra-thick stock?

Answer

Laser cutting is not the right method for ultra-thick cardstock at 24pt and above. The thickness resists a clean laser cut, so those jobs need a physical die instead.

  • 24pt and thicker: requires a steel die for a clean, consistent cut.
  • Need faster turnaround: ask about lower-caliper alternatives such as 16 to 18pt with lamination or coating, which can cut more quickly.
  • Trade-off to weigh: a slightly thinner stock with lamination can still feel substantial while shortening production time.

Tell us the final thickness and shape you want when you request a quote so we can match the cutting method to the stock.
