Should I submit my business card design in RGB or CMYK?
Answer
Use CMYK. Presses print with cyan, magenta, yellow and black inks, while RGB describes light on a screen, so a CMYK file previews colors much closer to the printed result.
- Set CMYK as the color mode when you create the document, in Photoshop or any other tool, before placing any elements, not just at export.
- RGB and Pantone colors get converted to CMYK, which often makes colors duller or muddier.
- Bright blues, greens and neons are the most likely to shift.
- Check critical brand colors in CMYK values and proof the file in CMYK so there are no surprises after printing.
