How do I stop text being trimmed off a CD cover?

Hold every line of type at least a quarter inch inside the trim edge and let the background run past it. Cutting happens through a stack, so a small drift across the run is normal and that margin absorbs it. Titles and credits sitting right on the edge are the first to lose a letter.

Can I print a barcode on the back of a CD insert?

Yes. The last panel of a two to four panel insert is where a barcode belongs, next to the track list and the copyright line. Place it as vector art rather than a picture of a barcode, keep it on a white patch with clear space around it, and print it in solid black rather than a four colour mix so a scanner reads it first time.
