Question
Can you print custom cards with white borders on all sides?
Answer
Yes, cards can be printed with an even white border on all sides, but the border has to be built deliberately so it survives trimming. Cutting has a small tolerance, so a border that is too thin can end up looking uneven once the card is cut. A slightly wider, balanced border is the safest choice.
- Make the white border at least about 1/4 inch wide so minor cutting shifts are not noticeable.
- Extend your background color or image to the full bleed area, roughly 1/8 inch past the trim line.
- Center your design so the border is equal on all four sides.
- Avoid hairline borders, since they magnify any cutting variance.
