What are the file requirements for a folded or scored card design?

A folded or scored card needs to be built as one flat file that shows every panel side by side, exactly as it will print before the fold is applied. Set up the artwork at the flat, unfolded dimensions and note the final folded size so production knows where each crease lands.

• Design at the full flat size (all panels laid out in one file), not at the finished folded size.
• State the final folded dimensions and the fold type, such as half-fold, tri-fold, or accordion (Z-fold).
• Include the standard bleed allowance of 0.125 inch on every outside edge.
• Keep the exact panel widths in mind, since accordion panels are often trimmed slightly narrower so they nest when folded.
• Show the number of folds and panels clearly so scoring lines can be positioned correctly.
• Keep important text and logos at least 0.125 inch away from every fold and trim line.

Building the file flat with clear panel and fold notes keeps the crease placement accurate and prevents artwork from breaking across a score line.
