Is aqueous coating food-safe for packaging?

It depends on the type of contact. Standard aqueous coatings are generally considered safe for indirect food contact, like the outside of a box, but direct contact with food calls for a coating specifically certified as food-safe.

• Indirect contact (box exterior): standard aqueous coating is generally acceptable.
• Direct food contact: use a coating certified food-safe, or add an approved liner between food and print.
