What bleed specifications are required for direct mail postcards?
Answer
Direct mail postcard files must include proper bleed, or they cannot be approved for production. Background art should run all the way off the edge so no white slivers appear after trimming.

| Bleed | 0.125" (1/8") on all four sides |
| Safe margin | Keep text and logos at least 0.125" inside the trim |
| Background | Extend images to the document edge |
- In Illustrator, InDesign, or QuarkXPress, enter 0.125" in the bleed option when creating the document.
- A template with bleed, trim, and safe lines makes setup easier.
- Files missing bleed are not approved and must be resubmitted, so build it in from the start.
