Question
What are "gutters" when referring to bound booklets or catalogs?
Answer
Gutters are the inside margins closest to the spine or center of a booklet or catalog, including the extra space set aside to accommodate the binding.
- They keep text and images from disappearing into the fold or binding
- Especially important for thicker booklets where more of the page curves into the spine
- Keep essential content out of the gutter so nothing important is lost
