What file format should I use for my Pin Back Button design?

Buttons are small, so tight file setup matters: a clean, high-resolution file keeps artwork crisp all the way to the curved edge. Design a little extra image beyond the trim, because the printed sheet wraps around the button's rim and some art is lost to that curl.
