Question
Can I write on laminated prints?
Answer
Writing on a laminated surface takes the right pen, since standard ballpoint ink does not adhere well to a glossy film. If you need a writable area, plan for it before you print.
- Gloss lamination: resists most pens, so avoid it where people need to write.
- Matte lamination: accepts some writing but can smear until the ink sets.
- Permanent markers: the most reliable option for marking a laminated surface.
- Leave a gap: the cleanest solution is an unlaminated write-on panel for signatures or notes.
For forms, punch cards, or anything that needs handwritten input, design a dedicated uncoated zone rather than fighting the finish.
