Question

Can I use spot UV on text?

Answer

Yes, and it looks striking on the right text, but size and weight matter. Keep type at 8pt or larger, because tiny letters and thin serifs do not hold the UV coating cleanly and can end up looking blurry or unevenly glossy. Bold, chunky type gives the coating enough surface to sit on and produces the crispest result.

  • Minimum size: 8pt. Go larger for the sharpest gloss.
  • Best fonts: bold sans-serif and headline-weight type.
  • Avoid: hairline serifs, thin scripts, and very small print, which coat unevenly.
  • Headlines, names, and logos are the ideal candidates for a spot UV accent.
