Question

Can I use an inkjet printer for coaster image transfers?

Answer

No, inkjet prints will not work for wet image transfers. Inkjet ink is water-based, so it smears the moment it touches Mod Podge or any wet transfer medium.

  • Use a laser printer for the Mod Podge transfer method, since laser toner is heat-set and water-stable.
  • If you only have an inkjet, switch methods and use adhesive vinyl decals cut on a craft cutter instead.
  • Ceramic-safe waterslide decal paper made for inkjet is another workaround if you seal it well.
