Text weight and cover weight describe two different paper categories, and the confusing part is that they use the same numbers on different scales. Text weight is thinner and flexible, while cover weight is thicker and rigid like cardstock. An 80 lb text flyer is far thinner than an 80 lb cover flyer even though both say 80, so always confirm which type you are ordering.
- Text weight: flexible and lighter, ideal for standard flyers you hand out or mail.
- Cover weight: stiff and sturdy, closer to cardstock, good for premium or display flyers.
- Same number, different scale: 80 lb text and 80 lb cover are measured against different base sheet sizes, so they are not comparable.
