What is the difference between 30pt and 10mil lamination?
Answer
The two numbers sound similar but measure completely different things. Points (pt) describe how thick the card stock itself is, while mil describes the thickness of a laminate film applied on top of a printed piece.

- 30pt is about the body of the card, so a 30pt card feels thick and stiff in the hand.
- 10mil is about the finish layer, adding durability, a sealed-edge feel, and protection against scuffs and moisture.
- A card can be both at once, for example a thick core with a laminate film over it.
