How many fonts should I use on a business card?

Two fonts is the sweet spot for a business card. The format is tiny, so every extra typeface competes for attention and makes the card look busy instead of intentional. A clean two-font system reads as designed, not decorated.

• Use one font for the headline items, like your name and company name.
• Use a second font for body details, such as phone, email, and address.
• Pair contrasting styles that still harmonize, for example a bold sans-serif headline with a lighter sans-serif body.
• If you want variety with just one font, lean on weight and size instead: bold for the name, regular for the details.
• Make sure both fonts stay readable at 8 to 9pt, since that is where the smallest card text usually sits.

Three or more typefaces almost always hurts. If a card feels cluttered, cut a font before you cut information.
