Question
How do I set up bleed for my brochure file?
Answer
Bleed is extra artwork that extends past the trim line so there are no white slivers after cutting. For brochures, the standard is 0.125 inch on every side of your flat, unfolded layout.
- Bleed amount: 0.125 inch (1/8 inch) on all four sides
- File size example: an 8.5 x 11 brochure becomes 8.75 x 11.25 with bleed
- Backgrounds: extend all colors and images out to the bleed edge
- Safe zone: keep text and logos at least 0.125 inch inside the trim line
- Applies to every standard size: the same rule holds for letter, legal, and tabloid layouts
