Question
Do I need a permit to mail brochures?
Answer
Whether you need a permit depends on how you send the brochures. Regular stamps need nothing extra, while discounted bulk mailing classes require a permit and fees.
| Mailing type | Permit needed |
|---|---|
| First-Class Mail | No permit, just stamps |
| USPS Marketing Mail | Marketing Mail permit (around $275 per year) plus a mailing fee |
| EDDM Retail | No permit at all |
Because it needs no permit, EDDM Retail is a popular starting point for small businesses trying direct mail for the first time.
