Say Thank You with a Card That Carries Real Care
After a memorial service, a printed thank you does what a text cannot: it tells the people who sent flowers, gave to a memorial fund, or simply came that their kindness was felt. A funeral thank you card puts your gratitude in someone's hands on real paper, in your loved one's memory, without asking you to design or write from scratch. A set of 25 starts at $19.77, rated 4.7 out of 5 across 9 reviews.
You pick the size, the stock and the finish, add an optional matching envelope, and the card arrives ready to address and mail. The fuller greeting cards and velvet cards sit in the full custom greeting cards lineup; the choices for the thank you card follow below.
A set of 25 costs $19.77, enough for the flowers, the donations and the pallbearers on a family list. A larger family mailing costs far less per card than that first set, and the tiers below give the set total for each count up to 100,000.
What Are Funeral Thank You Cards
Funeral thank you cards are printed cards families send after a memorial or funeral to thank people for their sympathy, flowers, donations, or presence. At 4OVER4 they print full color in 3 sizes, from 4.25" x 5.5" to a 6" x 6" square, on any of 20 stocks, with the size, ink, finish and a matching envelope all chosen on this page. You set the message, choose the paper that matches the tone, and print the front with a blank or black back, or full color on both sides. If you are also planning an upcoming gathering, the Save the Date Cards use the same simple flow. For a keepsake handed out at the service itself, see our memorial cards.
What to write in a funeral thank you card
Short is right. Three or four sentences is a complete acknowledgement, and nobody receiving one is measuring its length. Name the specific kindness, say what it meant, and sign it. If the family is writing together, one person can write the body and others can add a line by hand. It is entirely normal for these to go out over several weeks, and nobody minds a card that arrives late.
For flowers. Thank you for the beautiful arrangement you sent for Dad's service. The church looked full of color because of people like you, and we brought your flowers home afterwards. It meant a great deal to all of us.
For a donation. Thank you for your gift to the hospice in Mom's name. She spoke often about the care she had there, and knowing that your donation goes back into it is exactly what she would have wanted. We are grateful to you.
For attending the service. Thank you for being with us on Saturday. Seeing so many people who knew and loved him made a hard day easier to stand in, and we will not forget that you came.
For pallbearers and clergy. Thank you for carrying my father on Saturday. It was an honor he would have valued from you in particular, and our family is grateful you were willing. For clergy: thank you for the service you led for our mother. You spoke about her as somebody you actually knew, and that was a comfort to everyone in the room.
Two practical notes. If a printed message is going on the inside, keep it general enough to suit every recipient and leave room for a handwritten line, because that line is the part people keep. And write the names down as the acknowledgements arrive, flowers, donations, food, help with arrangements, rather than trying to reconstruct the list later.
What Size Should a Funeral Thank You Card Be
Pick the size by the message and the envelope it goes in. The 4.25" x 5.5" default is the classic thank-you size, easy to write and easy to mail. Step up to 5" x 7" when you want room for a photo of your loved one and a longer message, or choose the 6" x 6" square for a card that reads as a keepsake on a mantel. For something in between, a custom size can be made to order up to 6" x 7". The chart below lists all 3 sizes, both finishes and the 20 stocks.
Personalized Funeral Thank You Card Options

The envelope, the stock and the design decide how the card arrives.
Add a matching envelope
The card and the envelope have to be decided together, because a card that does not have an envelope to fit it is a card that cannot be posted. The 4.25" x 5.5" card is the standard note card size and takes an A2 envelope, which is the size most stationers stock and the one a post office handles without a second look. The 6" x 6" card needs a square envelope, and square envelopes are worth confirming before you order rather than after, since they are less common and are sometimes surcharged in the post. The middle size takes the envelope listed beside it on the order form above.
Runs start at 25 cards, which is the point of the product. A family list is usually small: the people who sent flowers, the ones who gave to the memorial fund, the neighbors who brought food, the pallbearers, the clergy, the funeral director. Twenty five covers most of that, and the per card price keeps falling as the run grows for the families and organizations who need far more, all the way up to 100,000.
If you are unsure of the count, order slightly over. A handful of spare cards costs very little at this quantity, and it is easier than placing a second order for four cards three weeks later, when the last few names surface.
Pick a stock that fits the tone
A soft 14pt or 16pt uncoated cover reads warm and understated, right for a somber note. Cream uncoated and kraft add a natural, muted feel, and the 14pt or 18pt white linen gives a subtle texture you can feel with your fingertips. The metallic pearl stocks in ice, champagne, silver and gold catch light gently, and the 24pt ultra thick gloss cover is the heaviest here when you want real weight in the hand. Finish plain with a Standard coat or add a High Gloss UV for a soft sheen.
Add a matching envelope
Choose the matching white wove envelope and each card ships with an envelope ready to address and mail, so you are not hunting for one that fits the size you picked. You can also leave the envelope off if you already have your own on hand.
Design it without a designer
Start from a layout in our greeting card design templates and change the wording, colors and photo in the online editor. The templates keep the spacing and margins balanced, so a photograph and three or four lines of thanks sit well on a 4.25" x 5.5" card.
If your artwork is finished, skip the editor and download a press-ready blank. The blank funeral thank you card template is built at the real trim size with the bleed and safe margin already drawn in, so your design stays clear of the cut. Take the size that matches your order below, place your art, and upload.
How Much Do Funeral Thank You Cards Cost
Funeral thank you cards start at $19.77 for 25, and the per-card price falls across 41 tiers toward 100,000. A run of 700 comes to $106.55, and 6,000 cards land at $238.14, about 4 cents each. Set the length of your family list on the slider below; it shows the set total and the per-card cost at that count, and the point where one more step up barely moves the budget.

What Ink, Corners and Proofs Can You Choose
The details are yours to set. Print full color on the front with a blank or black back, or on both sides, using the 4/0, 4/1 or 4/4 ink options. Soften the card with rounded corners at a 1/8" or 3/8" radius, or leave the corners square. Order anywhere from 1 to 10 sets in a single go. And when it comes to approving the artwork, you have 3 proof options: send it straight to production to save time, review a free online proof on screen, or request a next-day hardcopy proof to check the exact color and stock in your hands before the full run prints.
Funeral thank you card designs
Restraint is what makes these cards work. Four directions cover almost every family, and each one is quiet on purpose.
Plain type on cream. Nothing but a few words, well set, on cream uncoated stock. No image, no border. This is the most traditional of the four, it never looks wrong, and it is the easiest to write on by hand because uncoated paper takes ink from a pen without smearing.
A single botanical. One small element, an olive branch, a sprig of eucalyptus, a single stem, placed at the top or in a corner rather than spread across the card. It softens the page without decorating grief. Silk or matte finishes suit this better than gloss, which can make a delicate line look printed rather than drawn.
A photograph panel. One photograph of the person, on the front or inside, with the message opposite. Choose the picture the family already loves rather than the most formal one available. If the photograph is the point, print full color on the front and keep the back plain so the handwritten note has somewhere to live.
Cream linen or kraft. Here the paper is the design. White linen carries a woven texture that reads as formal and traditional in the hand, and kraft is warmer and less formal, which suits a person who would have found a linen card too stiff. On both, keep the ink to one color and let the stock do the work. If you want something with more weight, the metallic pearl stocks in ice, champagne, silver and gold sit between the two, and 24pt is the heaviest card here.
You do not have to start from a blank page for any of these. Our design templates hold layouts you can put your own wording and photograph into, and you can review the free proof before anything is printed, which is worth doing carefully on a card where a misspelled name matters more than usual.
