Question
What materials and thickness options are available for large custom signs?
Answer
Large custom signs are usually printed on one of three rigid substrates, each with a different thickness and set of strengths. Matching the material to the environment matters more than picking the thickest option.
| Material | Thickness | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Rigid PVC | 1/8" | Smooth, durable panels for semi-permanent indoor or covered outdoor signs |
| Coroplast (corrugated plastic) | 4mm | Lightweight, weatherproof outdoor and yard signage |
| White foam core | 3/16" | Crisp, lightweight indoor displays and short-term use |
- For weather exposure, coroplast or rigid PVC hold up far better than foam core.
- For the flattest, most premium indoor look, foam core or PVC give a smoother face than corrugated plastic.
