Question
Can 4OVER4 print spot UV on colored cards?
Answer
Yes, spot UV can be applied to cards printed in a wide range of colors. Spot UV is a clear, glossy coating placed only on chosen areas, so it creates shine and contrast against the surrounding surface, which stands out especially well over darker or matte backgrounds. The effect depends on setting your file up correctly.
- Mark the coating: add a separate layer or spot channel showing exactly where the UV should sit.
- Keep it registered: align the UV art precisely with your artwork.
- Best contrast: spot UV pops most over rich, dark, or matte colors.
If you are unsure how to build the file, the design team can guide you through preparing the spot UV layer.
