Question
How should I install large vinyl decals to avoid damage?
Answer
Large vinyl decals go on cleanly when you prep the surface and work methodically. The wet-install method gives you room to reposition before the adhesive grabs, which matters most on big pieces.
- Clean and dry the surface first so it is free of dust, grease, and residue.
- Mist the surface lightly with a soapy water solution for a wet install, which lets you slide the decal into place.
- Position the decal, then squeegee from the center outward to push out water and air bubbles.
- Peel the backing liner away gradually as you smooth the decal down.
- Work slowly so the material does not stretch or crease, and use a second set of hands for very large pieces.
Take your time on alignment during the first pass, since large graphics are hardest to lift and reset once most of the surface has bonded.
