Question
How to setup my files for Kiss-Cut Sticker or Label Projects?
Answer
Kiss-cut stickers and labels are cut through the top layer while the backing stays intact, so each one peels away cleanly. You supply two files: your printed artwork and a separate kiss-cut file that marks the cut path.
- Artwork file: built in CMYK at the finished sticker size, 300 dpi.
- Bleed: 0.125" (1/8") on all four sides; extend images and color fills to the outer bleed edge so no white slivers show at the cut.
- Software setup: in Illustrator, InDesign or QuarkXPress, enter 0.125" in the document's bleed field before you start.
- Kiss-cut file: the cut path as vector line art, saved as an EPS or PDF.
- Registration: match the size and position of both files so the cut lands where you want it.
- Safety margin: keep text and critical details a comfortable distance inside the cut line.
| Element | Setting |
|---|---|
| Document size | Finished label size |
| Bleed (all sides) | 0.125" |
| Resolution | 300 dpi |
| Cut file | Vector EPS or PDF |
Files without bleed are typically flagged and must be corrected and resubmitted before production.
