Question
How do I hang a heavy mounted poster without nails?
Answer
Heavy mounted posters, the kind bonded to a rigid foam board, need more than corner support to stay flat and level without nails. The weight pulls the top edge away from the wall, so spread the load across several anchor points.
- Use heavy-duty adhesive strips: pick strips rated for 3 to 4 pounds or more, not light photo-hanging strips.
- Space them out: place a strip every 8 to 10 inches along the top edge.
- Add side support: two strips on each side keep the board from bowing.
- Press and wait: most strips need firm pressure for 30 to 60 seconds and about an hour to cure before hanging.
For very large or heavy boards, French cleats or hook-and-loop mounting strips give extra security while staying nail-free.
