Question
Tips : Meeting USPS Presorted Automation Standards
Answer
To qualify for presorted automation, your artwork needs to leave room for the post office to place its markings and read the address. Two clear zones matter most.
| Zone | Required size | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Indicia area | 1.25" x 1.25" | Space for the postage indicia |
| Addressing area | 4" x 2.5" | Space for the recipient address and barcode |
- Keep these areas clear of heavy artwork, dark colors, and important text.
- On most pieces this is not a problem because the print area is much larger than the reserved zones.
- Planning these zones into your design up front avoids automation issues later.
