Question

How should I prepare files for folded greeting cards or invitations?

Answer

Folded cards print flat on a single sheet, then get scored and folded, so your artwork has to account for every panel in the right position. Build one spread at the full flat (unfolded) size with each panel where it lands after folding.

  • Set the file at the full flat size, not the finished folded size, so the cover, back, and inside panels sit in the correct spots.
  • A bifold card (folded once) needs four panels planned: front cover, back, and the two inside pages.
  • Add 1/8" (0.125") bleed on every outside edge and keep text at least 1/8" inside the trim.
  • Save a print-ready PDF in CMYK at 300 DPI.
  • Match 4OVER4's template and folding layout for your fold type so panels do not end up reversed.

If you are unsure how your fold maps to panels, reach 4OVER4 support before you submit.
