Question

What's the minimum size for a printed barcode?

Answer

Barcodes need a minimum footprint to scan reliably. Print them smaller than the accepted floor and you risk read failures at checkout or in the warehouse.

Code typeMinimum size
UPC-A (100% magnification)1.469 in wide x 1.02 in tall
QR code0.8 in square
  • Keep a clear quiet zone (blank margin) around every barcode so scanners can find the edges.
  • Do not shrink below these minimums to fit a tight layout. Enlarge the space instead.
