Question
What's the minimum size for a printed barcode?
Answer
Barcodes need a minimum footprint to scan reliably. Print them smaller than the accepted floor and you risk read failures at checkout or in the warehouse.
| Code type | Minimum size |
|---|---|
| UPC-A (100% magnification) | 1.469 in wide x 1.02 in tall |
| QR code | 0.8 in square |
- Keep a clear quiet zone (blank margin) around every barcode so scanners can find the edges.
- Do not shrink below these minimums to fit a tight layout. Enlarge the space instead.
