Question

What file format should I submit for barcode printing?

Answer

Barcodes print cleanest from vector art, which stays razor sharp at any size. If you must supply a raster image, keep the resolution high and start from the original file, never a screen grab.

  • Best: vector formats like EPS or SVG that scale without quality loss.
  • Also fine: PDF files with the barcode embedded as vector art.
  • Raster minimum: 300 DPI if a pixel-based file is unavoidable.
  • Never: screenshot a barcode from a website. The resolution is too low for clean bars.
