What are print specifications, and why do they matter?

Print specifications are the technical rules your file needs to meet so it prints exactly as you designed it. Getting them right up front prevents trimming errors, blurry images, and color that shifts on press.
- Dimensions: the final trim size of the product.
- Resolution: 300 DPI at that size for sharp images and text.
- Bleed: 0.125 inch of extra background past the trim so no white edges appear.
- Safe zone: keep key text and logos 0.125 inch inside the trim so nothing gets cut.
- Color mode: CMYK, the standard for accurate printed color.
Following a product-specific spec sheet is the surest way to get a first-time-right print.
