Question

How many pages do I need for perfect binding?

Answer

Perfect binding needs enough pages to build a spine thick enough to glue and print on. As a rule of thumb, that means a minimum of about 48 pages, or 24 sheets. Below that, the spine is too thin to hold well or carry text.

  • Page counts are in multiples: perfect-bound interiors work in even page counts, so plan your layout accordingly.
  • Thicker stock, thicker spine: heavier paper reaches a printable spine at a lower page count.
  • Thin projects: if you are well under the minimum, a stitched or coil binding will look and feel better.
