Question

What is the minimum page count for a saddle-stitched booklet?

Answer

Saddle-stitched booklets are made from sheets folded in half and stapled at the spine, so pages always come in multiples of four (8, 12, 16 and so on), covers included. Each printer sets its own minimum page count.

  • Increment: multiples of 4; a file may need to move up or down to the nearest valid count.
  • Cover: counts toward the page total.
  • Blank pages: can be inserted to reach the required total.
  • Short content: if you are under the minimum, a folded or self-cover format may fit better.
  • Long content: very high page counts often suit perfect binding, which glues the spine instead of stapling.
  • Ask your printer for its minimum and available page counts.
