Why can't I order black ink only printing (1/1)?

1/1 (black ink only on both sides) is not offered because jobs run gang-run, meaning many separate jobs share a single press sheet.

• Gang-run printing places multiple jobs on one sheet, which runs in full-color CMYK.
• Black-and-white files are set up as 4/1 (full color front, black back) or adjusted to 4/0 (full color front only).
• Your black-and-white artwork still prints crisp, just within a CMYK run.
• Sharing press time across many jobs is what keeps the pricing low.

So there is no downside for a black-and-white design. It prints cleanly, it just rides along on a full-color run.
