Question

What file format should my logo be in?

Answer

A vector file is ideal, and a high-resolution PNG with a transparent background is the best everyday option. Transparency lets the logo sit cleanly on any background color with no visible box around it. If all you have is a JPEG it can still work, but it must be sharp at print size, because a low-resolution logo is the number one cause of blurry prints.

FormatBest use
SVG / EPS / AI (vector)Scales to any size with zero quality loss, the gold standard
PNG (transparent)Drops onto any background cleanly, great for on-screen builders
PDFPreserves vector artwork and fonts for print
JPEGAcceptable only at 300 DPI or higher, no transparency
  • Aim for at least 300 DPI at the exact size the logo will print.
  • If you only have a small web logo, ask your designer for the vector source before printing.
