If you have never considered Spot-UV business cards before, let's take a look at what sets them apart from other types of cards available on the market and the results you can expect.
What is Spot-UV?
Spot UV printing is a technique in which UV coating is applied to a designated part of your business card so that it pops off the paper with a glossy finish in direct contrast with the rest of the cardstock, color and texture.
You could say that the Spot-UV process is like a highlighter bringing attention to a key part of your business cards.
Spot-UV is accomplished when ultraviolet cured coatings are applied over ink on paper, deepening the color of the area and drying almost immediately.
With Spot-UV, the contrast between gloss and uncoated finish creates a visual as well as a tactile experience for the senses.
No wonder, it is one of the more popular finishes for professionals and business owners.
When opting for Spot-UV over other finish techniques, remember to only use coated paper stock in order to guarantee the best outcome.
Using uncoated papers can sometimes lead the UV coating to bleed into the paper leaving very little of it on the surface.
How to Prepare Your File for Spot-UV Business Cards?
After all that time and effort you put into the design of your business cards, you want to make sure that you send it off to the printer correctly so there is no room for confusion.
Preparing the file to the printer's exact instructions is key to the successful outcome of your business cards.
To ensure the quality of your customized business cards, we ask that all our customers send us their file according to our instructions.
First, the Spot-UV mask file should only be in 100% black and white and uploaded with your full color file.
The 100% black areas are those where the Spot-UV will be applied.
White will be used to indicate the areas that will not receive Spot-UV coating.

Frequently Asked Questions
You can dominate the competition with cards that will impress any audience.
What stock options and thicknesses are available for Spot-UV Business Cards?
Spot-UV Business Cards can be ordered on coated stocks including 14 point gloss cover, 16 point gloss cover, and 16 point silk laminated cover. The Spot-UV coating is applied selectively to specific design areas, creating a glossy, slightly raised contrast against the rest of the card for a premium look and feel.
Can I customize where the Spot-UV appears on my spot uv business cards?
Yes. You choose exactly which elements (like your logo, company name, or key graphics) receive the Spot-UV effect. You can use our online designer tool to create your design, upload your own design or use our templates, and our online designer includes templates for spot uv business cards to help you plan the coated areas clearly.
How long does production take for Spot-UV Business Cards?
The description doesn’t list specific turnaround or rush options for Spot-UV Business Cards. What it does note is that Spot-UV uses ultraviolet-cured coatings that dry almost immediately during the finishing process, helping produce a crisp, glossy contrast. For exact production timing, you’d need to confirm when ordering.
What's the minimum I can order, and what is the starting price for Spot-UV Business Cards?
The minimum quantity isn’t stated in the product description, but pricing starts at 76.88. Spot-UV Business Cards are positioned as a surprisingly affordable premium finish compared with other select finishes, since the glossy coating is applied only to designated areas rather than covering the entire card, while still delivering a high-end result.
Do you provide templates or guidance for setting up Spot-UV files?
Yes—file setup is specific for Spot-UV. You must submit your full-color file plus a separate Spot-UV mask file in 100% black and white only. Black indicates where Spot-UV will be applied, and white indicates no coating. You can also use our online designer tool and templates to plan your spot uv business cards correctly.
Is Spot-UV on these business cards raised and noticeable to the touch?
Yes. The Spot-UV coating creates a glossy finish and adds a subtle three-dimensional quality because the coated areas are slightly raised. This produces both a visual pop and a tactile contrast against the uncoated portions of the card, making key elements stand out and feel premium when recipients handle your cards.
