## Hang a Tag That Shifts Color in the Light

A shopper reaches for the hang tag before anything else, and a holographic one makes that touch impossible to ignore. The surface shifts through a rainbow as the tag moves, so a small piece of cardstock reads as premium the moment it lands in a hand and catches an eye on a crowded rack. Our [holographic hang tags](https://www.4over4.com/video/holographic-hangtags) video shows the color shift in motion.

A sample batch of 100 covers one product, and a full season drop across a whole line runs into the thousands. Every other tag style sits on [hang tags printing](https://www.4over4.com/hang-tags-printing).

### What Are Holographic Hangtags

Holographic hangtags, also called holo tags, are printed tags with an iridescent, light-shifting finish for streetwear, beauty and any product sold on a busy rack. For the same premium build with a different accent, see the [Metallic Hangtags](https://www.4over4.com/product/metallic-hangtags).

### Designing Around the Holographic Surface

Print goes on top of the light-shifting surface, so ink and effect compete for the same square inch. Heavy, full coverage ink mutes it: a tag flooded edge to edge with a dark solid comes back looking like a matte tag with a faint shimmer at the edges. Design for the gaps instead. Knock the logo out of a solid block so the shape itself shifts, leave the background unprinted and let type carry the ink, and use tints where you want color and shift at once. Save deep solids for small areas like a price panel or a barcode field, where flat ink helps.

### What Size Should a Holographic Hangtag Be

Size follows the product it hangs on. The 2" x 2" default fits a shirt placket or a candle lid without covering it, with room for a logo and a price. A tall 2" x 6" reads like a bookmark down a sleeve, with a panel for care instructions or a story on the back. The 2.5" x 2.5" suits a clean price-and-brand tag, and the 4" x 6" is closer to a small card for a folded blanket, a gift box or anything sold as a set. A custom size is quoted in the configurator when none of the four fit.

### Holographic Hangtags , Configured Your Way

6 option groups, 20 choices, defaults: 16pt Silk Laminated, 4/0: 4 Color Front; Blank Back

### What Lamination and Ink Should You Pick

Lamination comes included and takes the handling, the rack scuffs and the odd damp hand. Silk gives a smooth, low-sheen face that keeps the shimmer subtle, gloss makes the iridescence read brightest under store lighting, and velvet reads soft and premium to the touch, a quiet cover over a loud finish. Our guide on [silk, gloss and velvet lamination](https://www.4over4.com/guide/silk-vs-gloss-vs-velvet-lamination) compares the three. Ink runs 4/0 for the front only, or 4/4 so the back can carry a size, a care note or a barcode.

### What Premium Effects Can You Add

Add foil stamping on the front or back for a fixed metallic mark that stays legible while everything around it moves, or emboss a logo so it rises off the surface. Spot UV lays a gloss coat on select artwork, and edge painting adds a band of color around the rim. Cut the tag into a basic or a complex shape, round the corners to a 1/8" or 1/4" radius, or add scoring or perfing where the tag needs to fold or tear.

### How Much Do Holographic Hangtags Cost

At 100 tags each costs about $1.87, and at 5,000 each costs about 13 cents. Set the slider below to the number of pieces you are tagging to see the run total and the per-tag cost.

## Wally makes your tag catch the light

Why a stack of holographic tags stops a shopper cold.

One hundred holographic hangtags cost $186.73, and each one prints full color on a 16pt laminated stock that shifts color as it moves. Pick silk, gloss, or velvet lamination, then add foil, embossing, or spot UV. Choose a size, set your effects, and Wally gets them printed.

### Holographic Hangtags Price By Quantity

100 for $186.73 ( $1.87 each) up to 2,000 for $422.89 ( 21.1¢ each)

- $186.73 $1.87 per unit, 100 100 units 2,000, Up to 89% less per unit at 2,000

### Can You Print a Name or Code on Each Tag

Yes. Variable data prints a unique name, serial number or code on each tag in the run. A streetwear drop can number every tag as a limited edition, and a product line can match each tag to its SKU, with the number on the back and the holographic front left clean.

### Holographic vs Foil Hangtags

| Tag | Where the shine lands | Best for |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Holographic | Across the surface wherever ink does not cover it, shifting with the angle | Streetwear, beauty, anything that has to catch a passing eye |
| [Metallic foil](https://www.4over4.com/product/metallic-foil-hangtags) | Only on the shapes you stamp, as a fixed mirror finish | A logo or monogram that has to read the same way in every photograph |
| [Diamond glitter](https://www.4over4.com/product/diamond-glitter-hangtags) | Across the surface as a sparkle texture rather than a color shift | Holiday runs, party and gift lines, kids products |
| [Kraft](https://www.4over4.com/product/kraft-hangtags) | No shine at all, a natural uncoated face | Handmade, organic and recycled positioning |

## Holographic Hangtags: Frequently Asked Questions

### Is the hole drilled, and does string come with it

No. Hole drilling and string are not among this tag's options, so plan how it attaches before you order. For a tag with a drilled hole, see the hang tags for clothing.

### Should I pick foil or holographic

Foil if the shine has to sit in one exact place, like a logo that must look identical in every product photo. Holographic if you want the whole tag to move and catch light on a rack. Foil stamping is available on this tag too, so a foil mark on a holographic field is a third answer.
