## Set the Tone Before the First Gift Is Opened

Long before the diaper cakes and the guessing games, one small card sets the mood for the whole celebration. For a soft pastel afternoon, a woodland brunch or a bold gender-reveal surprise, print your details in full color, add the RSVP line on the back, and hand your guests a card that feels made for the day.

Invitations for a 50 guest shower cost $25.27, so a big family list costs far less per card than a set of 25.

### What Are Baby Shower Invitations

A baby shower invitation is a flat card that tells guests the date, time and place of the shower, with room for the RSVP and the registry. Guests see the theme first, so pick the colors and the paper before the details: the date and address on the front, the registry note or RSVP on the back with 4/1 or 4/4 ink. To announce the news rather than the shower, the [Gender Reveal Invitations](https://www.4over4.com/product/gender-reveal-cards) build from the same options.

## Baby Shower Invitation Themes and Design Ideas

The theme is more than the artwork. It decides the stock, and on a card this small the stock does more work than the illustration does. Pick the direction below, then open the matching layout in the [design templates](https://www.4over4.com/design-templates) library further down the page and change the wording.

Boy. Blues, grays and navy read best on a gloss cover, which holds a dark flood of color without patchiness. A 5" x 7" gives a large illustration room to breathe above the details.

Girl. Blush and dusty rose sit better on an uncoated or cream stock, where the color soaks in slightly and loses the glare that gloss puts on pale tones. Cream is the quiet upgrade here.

Gender neutral. Sage, mustard, terracotta and cream on white linen. The linen texture carries a plain palette on its own, so the design can be a wreath, a line drawing and four lines of type.

Gender reveal. The card has one job: keep the secret and make people show up. Metallic pearl in ice or champagne gives the reveal a bit of theatre, and a 6" x 6" square is easy to spot in a mail stack of rectangles.

Baby sprinkle. Second baby, smaller party, lighter tone. The 4.25" x 5.5" size keeps the run cheap for a shorter guest list while still printing full color on both sides so the registry and the address fit on the back.

Twins. Two names, two sets of details, and type that has to stay legible. Go up to 5" x 7" and use both sides rather than shrinking the point size to fit one face.

Floral. Watercolor florals need a stock that keeps the edges soft rather than sharpening them. Uncoated cover and cream both do that; a High Gloss UV Coating does the opposite, so skip it on this one.

Safari and woodland. Animal illustrations print well on almost anything, which makes this the theme to choose the stock for the room instead: 24pt ultra thick if you want guests to feel the card, gloss if the illustration is dense with color.

Rustic kraft. Brown kraft is uncoated and unbleached, so white never prints as white and every color shifts warm. That is the look. Keep the artwork to line work and single color type, and the effect is the most distinctive card in this list.

Metallic pearl comes in ice, champagne, silver and gold, which is the fastest way to make any of the themes above look like it cost more than it did.

### What Size Should a Baby Shower Invitation Be

Pick the size by what the card has to hold. The 4.25" x 5.5" fits the date, time and address and mails cheaply. The 5" x 7" takes a photo, a map and the full run of details without crowding, and the 6" x 6" square reads almost like a keepsake. Round the corners at 1/8" or 3/8" for a softer look.

### What Paper Stocks and Finishes Can You Choose

For a bright pastel or a photo of the parents-to-be, 14pt or 16pt gloss cover keeps color clean, and a High Gloss UV Coating makes a photo or a bold color snap. Kraft or cream uncoated gives a natural, rustic look, white linen a woven texture you can feel, and the 24pt ultra thick gloss cover a premium weight in the hand.

#### Start from a shower template

Pick a shower theme in our [invitation design templates](https://www.4over4.com/design-templates/invitations), then set the parents' names, the date, the address and a photo in the online editor.

Made your own design, or using a photo? Set it on the [blank baby shower invitation template](https://www.4over4.com/blank-templates/baby-shower-invitations) for your size; it shows the 1/8" bleed and the safe zone the next section talks about.

### Photo Baby Shower Invitations

A photo invitation lives or dies on the file you upload, so check three things before you place it.

Resolution. Print needs about 300 dots per inch at the size the photo will actually appear. A modern phone photo is comfortably large enough to fill a 5" x 7" card, provided you have not cropped hard into it first. If the image looks soft when you zoom to full size on screen, it will look softer on paper.

Full bleed layouts. If the photo runs to the edge of the card, extend it past the trim line into the bleed and keep faces, hands and any text well inside the safe zone. Cards are cut in stacks, so a face that sits right on the trim will be cut differently on the first card and the last one.

Stock choice. Photographs hold the most detail and contrast on gloss cover, where the surface stops the ink spreading. Uncoated, cream and white linen soften a photo, which flatters a soft focus maternity shot and hurts a sharp group photo. Kraft is the one to avoid for photographs: it is brown and unbleached, so skin tones shift warm and highlights disappear. Metallic pearl sits in between, adding a sheen that suits a single portrait more than a busy scene.

### How Much Do Baby Shower Invitations Cost

A church or office shower list of 700 is $106.55 and 6,000 run $238.14. A thicker stock, the UV coating, envelopes or a faster speed add to the total. The slider below covers the first six tiers, from 25 to 400 cards.

### Can You Add Matching Envelopes and a Proof

Add the Matching White Wove envelopes and the invitations arrive ready to address, each sized to the card you picked so it neither slides around nor has to be forced in. For other envelope colors and closures, see [invitation envelopes](https://www.4over4.com/product/invitation-envelopes), or [blank envelopes](https://www.4over4.com/product/blank-envelopes) to run guest addresses through your own printer. Order a few spares for addressing mistakes.

Before anything prints, go straight to production, take a free online proof to confirm layout and color on screen, or order a next day hardcopy proof to hold the real card first. Read the proof once for the date and time, once for the address and once out loud for the name.
