# What is the equivalent to Flood UV Coating?

Flood UV coating simply means the entire card is covered with a high-gloss UV coating, as opposed to spot UV, where only specific areas are coated. So the equivalent to flood UV is any full-coverage high-gloss UV finish: the coating floods the whole surface rather than being placed in select spots. Flood UV equals overall UV, sometimes called full UV, applied edge to edge across the side. The result is a bright, glossy, protective sheen over the complete printed area. By contrast, spot UV leaves most of the card matte and glosses only chosen details. Choose flood UV when you want maximum shine and surface protection across the whole card.
