# How do I set up my design file for embossing?

Embossing is driven by a separate die layer that tells the press which areas to raise. Your artwork needs that layer built cleanly and aligned to your print file. Put the emboss areas on their own layer, filled a single solid color (usually 100% black). Align that layer perfectly over your print file so the raised areas land where you want them. Keep embossed elements bold. Very thin lines and tiny text do not hold a crisp raised edge. Start from your printer's product-specific template for exact dimensions and layer instructions.
