Rackcard Marketing

A rack card is a type of brochure that is frequently used in the hospitality industry. When you visit a tourist information center or a hotel lobby, for example, you’ll find racks of promotional brochures that describe things to do and see in the area. These brochures are called rack cards, so named because they fit into these standard display racks.

Many travel-related business find rack cards to be effective because they are presented to an audience that is already interested and pre-qualified.

  1. Hotels, motels and resorts
  2. Museums
  3. Theme parks
  4. Shopping centers
  5. Antique dealers
  6. Theatres
  7. Indoor and outdoor recreation centers
  8. Local festivals and fairs
  9. Seasonal events
  10. Tours and travel packages

Unlike a typical brochure, which is folded and has three or more panels, a rack card is a single panel printed on two sides.

Rack cards come in two standard sizes: 4” X 9” (more common) and 3 ½” X 8 ½.”

Here are some tips for getting the most from your rack card.

  1. When you design your rack card, keep in mind that it will compete with many others for viewers’ attention. Use vivid color and creative design for maximum impact.
  2. Only the top portion of your card will be visible while in the rack, so make sure your name or a description of what you do is at the top on the front panel and easily seen at a glance.
  3. Use the back panel for details such as location and hours of business. Since out-of-towners may pick up your rack card, consider including a small map and detailed directions. Provide easily recognizable landmarks to make it easy to find you.

Other information to include on your rack card:

  • How to make reservations
  • Dates of operation (if seasonal)
  • Phone number and web address
  • Discounts or specials (bring this card and receive…)
  • Packages or group rates
  • Special shows or events
  • Membership in the Better Business Bureau, Chamber of Commerce or other important business organizations
  • Awards, recognition and rankings (rated # 1 by…)
